Grays' Quarry is a local site about 2 1/2 hours from the store.
Located along Interstate 26 at the Gray exit, and just a few minutes from I-81. Grays' Quarry is a three-acre quarry lake set up for diving. Sunk in the quarry are a school bus, a 1967 International tanker firetruck, a Cessna 310 airplane, a 19' cabin cruiser, a SeaDoo Sportster, a very large houseboat that allows a lot of swim-throughs, and nearly a dozen statues for great photo opportunities.
For training, there is a semi-floating platform about 4 feet deep making a great setup site for entrance to the dive. Just off the 4-foot platforms are a 12' deep platform and a 20' deep platform marked with buoys. Another platform sits atop the fire truck at 50'-60'.
Gray's Quarry does not have a thermocline. Two aerators turn the water and oxygenate the full depth of the quarry. That makes water temperature the same top to bottom and the large variety of fish inhabit all levels of the quarry. There are some really large Koi that travel together feeding off the bottom.
On-site is a full-size' dive bus' with changing area and heat, a canopy with a tank holding station, and canopy lights for night diving. Parking is available at the top of the quarry where a portable restroom is available.
There are cities nearby with lodging, food, and shopping. Johnson City is 15 minutes south. Kingsport and Bristol are within a short drive.
There is an entrance fee. Our trip price includes the entrance fee, taxes, snacks, drinks, and any service charges.
When you sign up you can choose to dive both days or only one.
